Lake Windamere

From Gretna Green it was back over the border into England and to the Lake District where we would spend the afternoon and night...I had sent word via scouts to prepare my boat for me to cruise this lake...

Bowness at sunset, coming back from my little nautical adventure in a boat that goes at 2 miles/hr.

The bird population on the lake is huge, and unwilling to move when you walk through them.

Lake Windamere, 20.01.00

Although they can't be seen on the boat - I made an effort in my little boat to catch the cruise boat where many others in the tour had gone on...in fact they were back half an hour before I even got to the shore...

Some of the many tiny little islands that dot Windamere.

Lake Windamere with Wray Castle, 20.01.00

The castle's turrets can only just be seen on the tree line here, I didnt manage to get close enough to fully check it out. I have heard that it is a private castle though...

The Lake District

The Lake District, Windamere, in particular is the home of every lover of water sports. In fact i'd daresay that is what the towns dotted along the lakes survive on. You cannot walk even ten metres before being assaulted by shipwrights, jetski hires, water tours and everything else that has to do with the water. Bowness-on-Windamere was the home for some time of a very famous person - Beatrix Potter known for Peter Rabbit and the like. The town also holds a museum of all things Potter, though I didn't get to see this...the lake was a little bit inactive when we got there being winter and all, though id say that summer would be unbearable because of all the jocks on their little toys...
